ABOUT ME

What I Can Do

I first visited Clemson when I was a sophomore in high school and fell in love with the campus. It was my first choice when the time came to apply for schools. I wanted a school where I didn’t know anybody from high school and that was also well known for its engineering program, and offered Air Force ROTCF. Before I knew I wanted to be an engineer, I thought I wanted to do something related to English. I’m known for being a book nerd. I love to read – fiction being my favorite genre. I also enjoy making unique ice cream flavors for my family and friends. I’m not sure if there is a specific problem that I am best at solving, but I try to help anyone out who comes to me with a personal problem. I work for Loft (the clothing store) when I am home on long breaks. I’ve been there for going on 3 years now. I work the register, fold clothes, set up the store displays, etc. I thought working retail would be a good starter job for me to have because I really want to work on developing new fibers and polymers. I would really love to work on improving the uniforms for our nation’s military, but I’m really fascinated by the possibilities for all the potential uses of different types of polymers and fibers. I’m most excited about being able to help out those who are willing to serve and lay down their lives for our country.

What I Like to Do

I am most passionate about books, music, and travel. I would really love to live over in France for at least a year or two, although, any place in Europe would be fine with me. When I’m at school, I mostly enjoy being in my room, relaxing and watching TV while painting. On the weekends, I love hanging out with my friends or reading, if I’m feeling antisocial. I really haven’t gotten much into volunteering, although I would really love to volunteer for an ASPCA or the Wounded Warrior Project. I love both of these nonprofits, because both help animals and people when they need help the most. I love animals; for as long as I can remember, my family has always had at least two dogs. My family also has a very strong military background, so we’ve always been supporters of the Wounded Warrior Project. I used to be very athletic in high school, and received my varsity letter for the tennis team and the varsity captain’s pin. Tennis is definitely one of my passions, and would be near impossible for me to give up completely. I always preferred to play singles instead of doubles, so I was sure that the outcome of every game was completely up to me and how I performed. This is probably a reason why someone wouldn’t want to work with me – if I’m working with someone and the final project is not what I had envisioned or expected as the outcome, I’m not going to be terribly pleased with the other person if I feel like they could have done much better than they actually did. I’m not trying to say that I blame other people if we don’t succeed!! I just prefer when I know I had complete and full responsibility for the final product and there was nothing else I could really change. I would like people to remember me as being a nice and genuine person.

What I Want to Do

As I’ve mentioned a few times, I love to read. I was in all Honors and AP English courses throughout high school. Some of the books we were required to read are now a few of my favorites, others are on my Never-Read-Again list. Our sophomore year in high school, we were required to read Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand, which I would say had the biggest impact on me. The way of thinking and the frustrations illustrated by Rand really influenced the way I look at situations presented in our world today. I’m most looking forward to the fiction portion of this course, as that is my favorite genre. Poetry is my least favorite genre. I’m hoping that learning how to construct a website in this course will be beneficial in the future, because after I graduate and accumulate some money, I’m really hoping to open my own ice cream shop, which will likely require knowledge to build a website.
